The PETS act would end the for-profit sale of cats and dogs in pet stores throughout Massachusetts. It also includes provisions that would end the use of testing animals for non-medical purposes, prevent public housing from creating breed and size based rules, and prohibit insurance companies from using breed in their underwriting, rating, and renewal decisions. The Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities would also have to create a uniform pet ownership program for residents of state-aided public housing.
The legislation will now be sent to the House. Please consider writing to your House Rep to get the bill passed and on the Governor's desk!
