Foster Care
We are seeking new foster homes, can you help?
Neponset Valley Humane Society does not have shelter space for rescued kittens and cats. Instead, we rely on our foster homes to provide short-term care. Please consider joining our foster network. All year round, and especially in the spring, we get calls to rescue kittens and older strays and we never have enough homes. Fostering can be as short as a few days, or up to several months depending on the adoptability of the animal.

How does our foster program work?
First, we’ll talk to you and find out more about you and your home.
What experience do you have with cats?
Who else is living in your home?
How large is your space?
Do you have other pets?
Will they be friendly to a new cat in the home?

Once we’ve established you in our foster network, we will assign rescued kittens or cats who are friendly, already well-socialized, and just need time to wait for their forever families to adopt them. Sometimes we have single rescues, but sometimes we have kittens that need to be fostered as pairs. We will also provide some tips to make the transition easier. For example, your foster cats need to start out in a separate room in your home, and you do not need to integrate foster cats into your animal family.

You may serve as the adoption coordinator for your foster cat if you choose, but that is not necessary. NVHS will provide veterinary care, but we may need to ask you to transport kitties to the vet for spay/neuter appointments. Foster families are critical to our ability to rescue cats in need.
